FACTS ABOUT GIRLS STATE
66th Session to be held June10 thru 15th, 2012.
Held at the University of the Cumberlands, Williamsburg, KY, just off I-75.
This is interactive training in the governmental process. Activities include role play as government officials.
Assigned to Federalist or Nationalist Party.
Assigned to House or Senate.
Run for elected city and state offices.
Live in mythical cities.
Delegates write bills and bring bills to Girls State.
Supervisors are American Legion Auxiliary volunteers.
Registration begins at 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m. Sunday
The closing session on Friday will adjourn at approximately 10:00 a.m.
CRITERIA FOR DELEGATES TO GIRLS STATE
Progressed through grade 11 without interruption or retention.
MUST BE A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES.
Must be interested in government and demonstrate leadership characteristics.
Must be willing and able to fully participate in the entire program. ANY LATE ARRIVALS OR EARLY DEPARTURES WILL FORFEIT THEIR BEING ABLE TO RUN FOR AN OFFICE WHILE AT GIRLS STATE.
All Girls State attendees are sponsored by Units of the American Legion Auxiliary. Local Units welcome contributing sponsors to assist in financing the financial aspect of the program.
