Department President 2008-2009 - Ms. Virginia Ann Betsekas

                             May 2009

Congratulations to Units 16, 20, 23, 29, 38, 41, 62, 67, 68, 82, 88, 101, 104, 193, 219 and 233 for having made or exceeded their 100% Goal!!

Membership into Department is down to a trickle this month. It is time we try to personally contact members and determine whether they intend to renew their membership. As of the last transmittal I received, we still need 1065 members to have our 100% goal. This goal is set for May 27th. Please, try to get your 100% membership. To the Units that have met their 100% I say a job well done! Some Units are still within one or two members of achieving their goal, and it is amazing that a majority of our Units need 10 or less members to be a 100% Unit.  Let us get the renewals in. I know at this time of year Units began holding onto new membership applications. Please do not do this. You may be preventing your Unit or District from receiving an award. The trophy for the Units that obtain 100% membership was shown at the Spring Conference. Please help your Unit or District win this award. District #1 is still in the lead for the District Award; however, they are only leading by a few members. Come on and try to catch them. I do not know if all Units are aware or not, but Junior members can be signed up whether or not you have a Junior Unit. If anyone in your Unit has a Junior eligible to be a member, think about doing this. Their dues are only $5.00 and they count, with National, as a member of the Auxiliary. Thanks to all Units for their hard work and let us continue to work on Membership.

I have attended all the Districts, and as of this writing, have completed my District travels. On May 2nd, I attended the 2nd District Meeting and attended the 1st District Meeting on May 3rd. I know many Districts have meetings on May 17th however; I will be attending my own 5th District Meeting.

Our State Convention will be held shortly and it appears that we are going to be very busy. There will be a tentative schedule in our Department book; however, we will have to vary from that schedule due to our National President and Southern Division President attending. We have no confirmed schedule of when they will arrive or depart, so we have to be flexible in our scheduling. In addition, it appears that we may have a breakfast reception for both our visitors. More information will be in our next bulletin.

I know the time has past for most reports to be into the Department Chairmen and I hope we had a many Unit Chairmen reporting. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone that did send in a report.

Please, all Department Chairmen, have your Department Report to Betty Lou no later than the 25th of May. This will enable her to have us a nice Book of Reports. I know that some of the Chairmen are new, but, every Chairmen and District President is to submit a report. No exceptions!! Please look at your plans of work that were given to you at our workshop. The majority of you have reports also due to National. I know that some of you do not feel you have to report, however, we can tell when the National Chairmen does their reporting, whether or not a report is received from each State. Let us have Kentucky with 100% reporting!

Please make plans to attend the Healing Field Memorial Service to be held at Anderson Post in Lawrenceburg. The date is Sunday, May 24th, at 3:00 P.M. in Lawrenceburg, KY. We will be hosting a Memorial Service for all our service people that have given their lives for Operation Freedom. Please try to attend.

Please ladies, love your Legion, Unit, Juniors and SAL and let us put forth our best effort for the remainder of the year in everything we do. Do not ever forget we are the Department of Kentucky.
